Taking on a New Role
Women of the 1920's beleive they deserve as much involvment in politically and socially as men do. For example, they want to have voting rights but majiority of men did not see it as necesssary. Then came along the 19th amendment, stating that no American can be denied the right to vote based on their there sex. More specifically, women are one of main reasons Prohibition was enacted. They spoke up on the abuse many women go through from their drunken husbands and the pain and absue their children were forced to endure. Therefore, in 1920 came about the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), it is the first mass organization among women devoted to social reform. Slowly but successfully women's political and social standards flourished throughout the country.
