Leading Factors to Prohibition and America's Reaction

The Start to "New Beginnings"
The 1920's has the 18th amendment enacted; banning the sale, production, importation, and transportation ofalcoholic beverages. Ofcourse, not everyone is on board with the new strict law resulting in the closings of bars and saloons. Congress passed this amendment because of the absue of drinking done my many Americans. Some men would drink away most, if not all of the family's money at these saloons and bars. As men came home from these places drunken, we see the abuse of it through the wives and children. Men are beginning to beat their wives and slowly but blindly this became the main cause of families breaking apart. In addition, there are some Americans who are in complete support of this amendement and majiority of those being women and citizens saw this in the best of interest for America's society. However, there are those who believe it is uncalled for and feel they are responsible enough to not abuse their drinking privelages. This grew great controversy in 1920 American society.
There are several things that pushed for the Prohibition Act to be passed. For example, women were intolerant of the effects of acoholic beverage abuse. Together many women formed organizations as part of a new Temperance movement. From the passing of the Prohibition Act, there came postive and negative effects. Some positive effects are family relations improved and reduced the consumption of alcohol, improving health issues. There ofcourse came some negative affects too, while cops continuosly closed down saloons one by one, speakesies are being opened. In addition, those who open up these speakesies are bootleggers resulting in them making a great amount of money off these illegal bars.
